Collaborating at WHA 2025 to Strengthen Sustainable Oxygen Solutions for LMICs
PCI Gases at the Medical Oxygen Community of Practice Roundtable
PCI Gases proudly participated in the Medical Oxygen Community of Practice (CoP) Roundtable on May 20, 2025 in Geneva. The event was organized by the Access to Medicine Foundation and the Global Oxygen Alliance (GO2AL), and it was funded and co-moderated by Unitaid. Held alongside the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA), this high-impact gathering brought together a broad coalition of global health leaders from the medical oxygen sector.
About the Global Oxygen Alliance and Event Participants
The Global Oxygen Alliance (GO2AL) Community of Practice (CoP) is a collaborative platform. It is facilitated by the Access to Medicine Foundation on behalf of GO2AL to unite key stakeholders from the medical oxygen sector. The aim is to improve access to medical oxygen in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The event featured participation from influential organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and Africa CDC. This highlighted the growing momentum and commitment across sectors.
Key Discussion Topics and PCI Gases’ Insights
According to the official meeting report published by the Foundation, the roundtable focused on fostering collaboration across the oxygen value chain. This ranged from public sector organizations and NGOs to medical gas providers and technical partners. Topics included service planning, energy-efficient supply models, financing mechanisms, and regulatory alignment.
PCI Gases shared important insights on how on-site oxygen systems based on Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) technology can play a key role in long-term, decentralized solutions. We emphasized the importance of designing systems that include maintenance support and operational autonomy. These elements are critical to avoid the failures seen with unsupported COVID-era equipment.
Towards Equitable Oxygen Access
As highlighted in the roundtable recap article by the Access to Medicine Foundation, this meeting marks a milestone towards equitable oxygen access. It is grounded in real-world implementation, national ownership, and practical collaboration. We are excited to support the CoP’s mission and to contribute to the next phase — mapping country-level needs and shaping a global roadmap for impactful, scalable oxygen access solutions.

VSA Technology
To produce oxygen from air, PCI uses a proprietary Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) process that eliminates many of the design problems associated with traditional on-site gas separation systems (PSA). Our innovative VSA system eliminates the need for process valves, feed air compressors, associated dryers and feed air filtering systems. Our robust VSA oxygen process extracts maximum sieve and power efficiencies = low cost (both CapX and OpX) high purity oxygen generation. Oxygen produced is 93% purity. Additional product/systems features include load following, remote monitoring and diagnostics along with an industry only 10-year warranty on the adsorber bed vessel. Average life span of our systems is 10-15+ years.
