Enhancing Disaster Preparedness in California with Two Fully Integrated Mobile Oxygen Systems

Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) deploys Two (2) PCI MDOCS 80 VSA Oxygen Generating System and Boost 66 Compressor System for rapid-response readiness
June 2025 — California.
PCI Gases is proud to highlight a recent success in emergency preparedness. In collaboration with the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) of San Bernardino County, California, a fully integrated mobile oxygen system for disaster preparedness is now in operational use. It features PCI’s MDOCS 80 VSA Oxygen Generating System and the Boost 66 Oxygen Compressor.
Originally acquired in April 2020, the oxygen system was built to support disaster response. It generates reliable, on-site medical oxygen in mobile and off-grid settings. This year, ICEMA successfully installed the system into a custom-built disaster trailer. As a result, the agency is now better equipped to serve inland communities across Southern California.
Reliable On-Site Oxygen for Emergency Medical Response
At the center of this mobile solution is the MDOCS 80—one of PCI’s most compact and power-efficient Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) oxygen generators. It consistently delivers 93% purity medical-grade oxygen. Because it requires very little power, it is well suited for trailer-based or mobile disaster response units. In addition, the system includes PCI’s Boost 66 Oxygen Compressor, which pressurizes the oxygen for storage in high-pressure cylinders. As a result, ICEMA can pre-fill tanks ahead of time or deliver oxygen directly to patients—even in remote areas without grid access.
This deployment represents a major step forward in regional disaster readiness. As California faces growing threats from wildfires, earthquakes, and health emergencies, fast-deploying systems like this have become essential. Fortunately, the combined MDOCS 80 and Boost 66 system gives ICEMA the ability to respond quickly and independently. It also reduces reliance on delivered oxygen cylinders, which are often delayed during crises. More importantly, it helps ensure uninterrupted care when traditional supply chains break down.
Overall, PCI’s oxygen systems continue to prove their value in real-world emergency scenarios. “This project shows the versatility and real-world impact of PCI’s oxygen generation systems,” said a PCI Gases representative. “We’re proud to support ICEMA’s mission to improve community safety and resilience.”
About the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA)
ICEMA serves as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency for San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono Counties in California. With oversight of more than 20 hospitals and multiple ambulance providers, ICEMA plays a central role in ensuring coordinated, high-quality emergency care throughout the region.

Why PCI Gases for Emergency Oxygen Preparedness?
As a global leader in on-site oxygen generation, PCI Gases provides trusted solutions for medical, industrial, and emergency applications. Health agencies, military groups, and humanitarian missions around the world rely on our MDOCS systems and Boost compressors.
Our emergency oxygen systems offer:
✔️ Mobile, trailer- and container-ready configurations
✔️ 93% purity medical-grade oxygen
✔️ Low power needs — solar compatible
✔️ Autonomous operation in remote areas
VSA Technology
To produce oxygen from air, PCI uses a proprietary Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) process that eliminates many of the design problems associated with traditional on-site gas separation systems (PSA). Our innovative VSA system eliminates the need for process valves, feed air compressors, associated dryers and feed air filtering systems. Our robust VSA oxygen process extracts maximum sieve and power efficiencies = low cost (both CapX and OpX) high purity oxygen generation. Oxygen produced is 93% purity. Additional product/systems features include load following, remote monitoring and diagnostics along with an industry only 10-year warranty on the adsorber bed vessel. Average life span of our systems is 10-15+ years.
