Sustainability in the Mining Industry
Sustainability in the Mining Industry: Advancing Towards an Environmentally Friendly and Safe Process
The Mexican Mining Chamber is committed to progressing toward sustainable development in the mining industry. A key milestone is minimizing its carbon footprint and reducing water use, along with enhancing water treatment and recycling. Another priority is making operations safer for both direct and indirect employees. These goals align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), part of the broader sustainable development agenda.
Leaching methods have gained popularity in the mining industry due to their well-understood process and generally low operating costs. This method allows the industry to balance the three pillars of sustainability: economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection.
PCI Gases On-site gas generation system
Injecting oxygen gas produced by an on-site gas generation system has proven to be the most economical, productive, environmentally friendly, and safe process. VSA technology is recognized as one of the best solutions for on-site oxygen production, offering the following sustainable advantages:
- Simple operation and easy maintenance
- Oil-free operation, eliminating the risk of oil contamination downstream of the oxygen system
- Air-cooled, with no cooling water or instrument air required
- Single sieve bed: PCI uses a sealed adsorber bed that doesn’t require molecular sieve replacement, avoiding disposal costs for residual waste
- No complicated valve switching configurations
- Load-following capabilities, reducing energy consumption during low flow rates
- Minimal space requirements, with limited civil construction and quick installation
- Expandable VSA modules to meet current and future demands
- Remote monitoring capabilities, tracking purity, pressure, and operating frequency
